Methods and practices to determine acceptability of risk in differing contexts are currently not well defined; or understood. Following his presentation ‘Grossly Disproportionate – how much is enough?’ at the 2016 RiskNZ Development Day, Kevin gauged interest on a RiskNZ Special Interest Group on Risk Acceptability. Kevin (as convener) launched this group in early 2017, he is joined by interested RiskNZ members with differing backgrounds.
The aim of the Special Interest Group is: to better understand existing practice, both nationally and internationally, and to synthesise a possible model to assess gross dis-proportionality. That is, to provide guidance on how to assess how safe is safe enough.
Defining the target level for SFAIRP will enable bench marking against current operations and furthermore should lead to better informed decisions and proportionate solutions.
To join or contribute to the Special Interest Group please contact Kevin directly, or email SIG1@risknz.org.nz.
